When asked if he enjoyed directing, Simon, who also wrote and starred in the film, laughed and enthused, "After completing the movie and watching it, yes, I enjoyed it. But the 40 days of shooting was not fun at all. I was restless and scared. Now I understand what the saying, "suspicion breeds ghosts" means. The more you think there are ghosts, the more you feel them. Horror actually comes from people's conscience." "Tales From The Dark Part 1" will be shown in cinemas beginning 11 July, while the second part will be released on 8 August.

News : Actor Sammul Chan

Actor Sammul Chan is happy working as an actor in mainland China, and revealed that it was having the freedom of choice that made him stay. As reported on HK Channel, the actor, who left TVB in 2011 after shooting "Relic Of An Emissary", revealed that the fact that mainland dramas paid more than TVB is secondary to the respect they gave him. Likening TVB to an institution, Sammul stated, "I did not have the power to make my own decisions there. But in mainland, I have the right to take whatever project I want and turn down the ones I don't like. For example, if I feel like shooting a costume drama in the summer is a nuisance, I can choose not to take on the project." He continued, "In mainland, actors can appear in any television stations they want. They only have to sign a per-series contract with the broadcaster. So there is more freedom in choosing." The actor also enthused that the cast and crew in mainland China are treated better and are better insured. The bigger pay is also an added bonus, and the actor admitted that the pay is good enough that he need not work multiple jobs to pay his bills.

John Woo's new film The Crossing

Casually dressed in a black T-shirt and khaki pants, Takeshi Kaneshiro turned up for the prayer ceremony of director John Woo's new film The Crossing (previously titled Pacific Wheel) in Beijing last Saturday. The Japanese-Taiwanese actor appeared to be in high spirits as he wore a huge smile throughout the event, sending the female crew's hearts aflutter. Netizens, who previously mocked the heartthrob for 'losing his charm', also exclaimed that his 'good looks have returned'. However, the actor's manager maintained that Takeshi Kaneshiro has 'always been the same'. 'There is no change [in his appearance],' he said. News : Psy's "Gangnam Style"

Now attention is focusing on Psy's next move, as he has wrapped up promoting the song and its follow-up, "Gentleman." Although the latter, which he performed for the first time at a concert in Seoul in April, climbed to fifth place on the Billboard Hot 100 within just two weeks of its release, it failed to emulate the success of "Gangnam Style." Most industry insiders predict that his new album will determine his future in the global market, as he can still trade on the so-called "halo effect" of his first hit. Psy started working on his new song in the U.S. after performing at a charity football game hosted by former Korea international captain Park Ji-sung in Shanghai last month. "We plan to release a new song this fall, but we haven't decided what genre or format it will be," his agency said.

News : Psy's "Gangnam Style"

Pop critics say that the biggest achievement of the song is that it elevated Korea's brand value. "Thanks to 'Gangnam Style,' it's been so easy to promote Korea for the past year," said Sohn Jie-ae, CEO of Arirang TV. "Regardless of whether K-pop is popular or not in some specific region, everyone knows Psy and 'Gangnam Style.' Because he promoted his song while speaking Korean and singing a Korean song, global recognition of Korea has grown significantly," she added. "The song helped spread Korean culture, including the Korean language, quickly around the world," said Kim Seung-soo, a professor at Seoul Institute of the Arts.

News : Psy's "Gangnam Style"

Psy's hit song blazed a new trail in terms of profits it earned overseas as well. According to music industry insiders, royalties paid overseas have exceeded W500 million (US$1=W1,152) since the third quarter of last year. This is the first time a single by a Korean artist has generated so much foreign revenue. Most of the royalties came from Britain and the U.S., and Psy split them with the song's co-writer, Yoo Gun-hyung, at a ratio of 3:1. "Royalties are still being generated, mostly from clubs and online music sites. Many parties, including YouTube in Europe, haven't paid up in full yet, so the total earnings will increase further," estimated one music industry insider. YouTube said on Monday that other Korean music videos have become much more popular in the wake of "Gangnam Style." It said the number of online clicks they receive has almost tripled since the release of "Gangnam Style," suggesting a healthy spillover effect for the industry. Psy's music video has attracted 1.7 billion views as of Friday, meaning it is likely to keep boosting interest in other K-pop singers.

News : Psy's "Gangnam Style"

When the music video for Psy's "Gangnam Style" was released, few people expected it to become such a global sensation -- topping charts and smashing records around the world, emerging as the most-viewed video on YouTube, and spawning the most emulated dance in recent memory. It has been about a year since Psy released the music video that subsequently went viral, and it continues to set new records.

News : Niki Chow

Niki Chow is TVB's lucky star, seeing that her series has never experienced a decline in ratings, but it does not mean the actress wants to work for the company permanently, reported Oriental Daily. The actress recently revealed that she has no intentions of signing an artiste management contract with TVB and be one of their permanent stars. The actress expressed, "Despite what others said, I don't think I'm TVB's lucky star. It's just a coincidence that two of the series I participated in were aired in the past two months. Usually I just film one series per year." When asked why she would not sign a contract with the station, Niki stated, "What difference does it make? We already have a good working relationship. I prefer quality rather than quantity, and I don't actually work on lots of productions." The actress revealed that her plans of releasing albums and shooting movies are why she preferred to freelance, and added, "[TVB executive] Miss [Virginia] Lok understands what I have in mind and we have mutual understanding about the nature of our collaboration. Upcoming film "Iceman 3D"

Rumour has it that Donnie Yen's upcoming film, "Iceman 3D", which was previously titled "The Iceman Cometh 3D" will be split into two parts, reported Twitch Film. Following extensive re-shoots, excessive spending and location issues, it was reported that the final product has 3.5 to 4 hours of footage. Instead of editing the movie into two hours, the producers have decided to turn the movie into two parts. It was stated that the "Iceman 3D Part I" will be released this Christmas, while "Iceman 3D Part II" will be out on Chinese New Year next year. The split seems to be a smart move on the producers' part, seeing that the movie has already gone over budget. Directed by Law Wing Chung, the remake of Clarence Fok's 1989 film, "Iceman 3D" stars Donnie Yen as a warrior from the Ming era who, together with his nemesis (played by Wang Baoqiang) are frozen during a fight. Decades later, they are defrosted, and decide to continue where they left off in modern day Hong Kong.

News : Voice of Stars

TVB's new celebrity singing contest Voice of Stars premiered last night. Oscar Leung, Mandy Wong, Carat Cheung, Benjamin Yuen, Ronald Law, Stanley Cheung and Fred Cheng appeared on the first episode. Eric Moo, Eric Kwok, Sally Yeh and Dominic Chow were the four "star-level" judges. On the day of the show's recording, Oscar performed Danny Chan's Wait and was heavily criticized by the judges for his poor performance. Eric Moo made the harshest comment -- Oscar got the rhythm confused in his singing and that he basically ruined Danny Chan's famous song. Also, Oscar thought he was familiar with the lyrics, but he in fact he didn't understand the lyrics, therefore he was just singing "blindly". As for Mandy, she performed Love Is the Most Powerful but was completely off-tune and off-key. Eric Moo criticized her voice was dry and narrow. Mandy wanted to push the blame on it being her first time performing this song, but the judges criticized her even more and said she didn't come prepared for the competition. However, on the actual broadcast of Voice of Stars last night, TVB carefully edited the recorded version and wiped out all of the criticisms the judges made on Oscar and Mandy. TVB practically changed the criticisms into compliments; the company sure loves their "children" to death. In the premiere last night, TVB edited out all of the negative comments that Eric Moo made on Mandy and only left one comment, "you don't really understand your voice, actually you have a female's medium voice and this is your most attractive area." Even the audience was able to hear Mandy singing off-key, but none of that was mentioned. Mandy accepted a telephone interview and responded to TVB editing out the criticisms. She said: "Maybe because they had to shorten the recorded version to an hour long and TVB wanted a positive outcome, so the show highlighted on our hard work in rehearsing the songs." Oscar accepted a telephone interview as well, he expressed: "Of course its better to broadcast the unedited version. I am willing to accept criticisms. I know I didn't perform too well, but I tried my best. Well, they didn't just cut my part, everybody got some cuts. I am not sure how TVB does their editing." Eric Moo expressed: "I did what a judge should do. The editing authority belongs to the TV station, I will respect that."

In an interview at the after-party, the songstress admitted that she prepared her speech for the Best Female Singer and Best Album awards, but not for the one she brought home. “That's why I'm eating non-stop to forget my disappointment. He also revealed that he originally was very worried about Li Xinai's performance because she had no acting experience. Yet as her acting gradually improved, he relaxed. Earlier Chairman Chou while promoting in Wuxi boasted that he would score his film over 100 points and described it as "three good movie". "Good with word of mouth, good with box office, good with award. Recently many movies have had high box office but not too good word of mouth. (Do you think it will win an award?) I didn't win any directing award before, just a new comer award." He also admitted that the film and music making processes were drastically different. Film production was a group collaboration but song writing was solo. "I have been bored and alone for a very long time. I don't have any siblings, so I like to work with good friends. In the film the redhead character was my middle school classmate."

BLIND DETECTIVE has not had any cinema audience appreciation like other films. To Kei Fung said, "I don't understand why directors run around cinemas. If only this way can attract viewers, what kind of film is it? I have been to cinemas several times and already know how this game is played. I don't want to go anyway." He also criticized that some young actors do not know how to act or what film is! He joked, "You see how long I have worked with Lau Ching Wan. How handsome is he?" Some reporters nodded. News : Jordan Chan Siu Chun

Congratulations! The 45 year old Jordan Chan Siu Chun and the 30 year old Cherrie Ying Choi Yi finally on July 1st gave birth to an almost 6 pound son Jasper. Little Siu Chun was born earlier than expected. When Ying Choi Yi realized her water broke, she immediately asked Siu Chun to return to Hong Kong. Siu Chun was lucky enough to return from Tianjin in time to be in the delivery room with his wife and witness the birth of his son under typhoon signal 3. Ying Choi Yi admitted it was like a dream and even joked that since her son was born during a storm, perhaps he would be able to command storms! New father Chan Siu Chun spoke to the media outside the hospital. He could not hide his joy. "My son was born on July 1st. I of course went into the delivery room with my wife. My son is almost 6 pounds. The delivery was not natural but the entire process went very smoothly. She was very tough and wasn't scared at all." Siu Chun was in Tianjin when he learned that his wife was about to give birth. He immediately returned to Hong Kong. As soon as he landed he rushed into the delivery room. Finally he was able to accompany Ting Ting into the delivery room; however, Siu Chun has yet to be able to hold the baby yet because the baby had to be kept under observation in an incubator. However last night Siu Chun finally was able to hold the baby! He made a baby carrying pose for the press. "Earlier during an interview I had a lesson, I don't think I will have any problem. I scored in the 80s." Will he distribute baby photos? He said, "Probably not, I will save them for myself." Siu Chun revealed that Jasper's mouth resembled his Mommy's and nose and eyebrows like Papa's. He said, "He is very hairy, I mean eyebrows, hair too. His limbs are long. Of course he is very handsome." He even praised his wife for being tough. Even with the anesthesia she still could feel the operation in her lower half. She even spoke as her eyes teared up. Siu Chun felt that this was an experience that only women would be able to experience and tough out. He of course was very touched and even thanked his wife with a kiss for giving birth to his baby. His son for now has no Chinese name yet, he would leave it for his wife to decide. For now he would be breast fed. He was the happiest that his son shared an astrological sign with him. "Coincidentally he was born on July 1st. Every year we will have fireworks to celebrate with. (It doesn't happen every year) It's still good!" According to Ying Choi Yi's facebook post, their son is named Jasper. Because Siu Chun's English name was Jordan, their son's name had to start with a J as well. Will he reduce work to take care of his family? Siu Chun helplessly said that originally he wanted to stay in Hong Kong more to spend more time with the baby, but from July to August he will have to fly to Tianjin for work. Siu Chun revealed that his wife always asked him to take acting roles, but he refused to yield. He planned to perform concerts for extra money, which was better than leaving several months for acting. Thus after all the work on hand he would not work another Mainland series for at least one to two years. He whined, "Give me some time with my son first. My wife had to suffer to give birth to our son. This would be a type of pleasure for the parents." Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heung Wa Keung yesterday visited at the hospital. Their son Jacky Heung Jor brought a gift in a Burberry bag. Mrs. Heung said, "I haven't called Ting Ting yet, but I believe they have to be very excited. (Will you give them any parenthood tips?) I believe they have done a lot of homework." YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI)'s Chicken Chan Siu Chun became a father, his co-star friends of course were happy for him. The humorous "Chan Ho Nam" Dior Cheng Yi Kin congratulated Siu Chun online right away, "Congratulation Pal, welcome Little Siu Chun." "Dai Tin Yee" Michael Tse Tin Wa yesterday brought champagne to hospital to visit with his wife. After a hour, they left in the company of Siu Chun. Tin Wa said that because the hospital has not permitted it yet they have not yet seen "Chun B". He said, "I am very happy for them, I saw Siu Chun smile from the heart. (Did you give him any parenthood tips?) I didn't ask, but maybe tomorrow we will be back to see the baby." As for "Bau Pei" Jerry Lamb Hiu Fung, when asked if he would share any parenthood tips with Siu Chun he revealed, "He wouldn't listen. He listens to the boss (Ying Choi Yi)! We suggested names for his son, he told us not to mess around and to stay away. He wasn't afraid of his old lady, it's respect."

TVB new series My Prime Lady

Recently, Dayo Wong has kissed almost all the girls in TVB new series My Prime Lady; all the kiss scenes were completed in a week. Following the force kiss scene between him and "Shrimp Head" Harriet Yeung, yesterday Dayo got to force kiss Sharon Chan and a kiss with Kate Tsui. Asked which kiss scene was most memorable to him? Dayo said: "Of course the one with Dodo Cheng! We filmed 100 episodes of War of Genders before getting a kiss scene, then we did a stage play and had 50 kisses." Asked if he has any more kiss scenes in this series? Dayo said: "Yes, I'll be kissing Benz Hui's cheek!" Earlier Dayo had a scene where he force kissed Sharon, the two did not enjoy it. Dayo said: "Very violent, terrifying and if I had known, I wouldn't do the scene! As for my force kiss scene with Shrimp Head, she kissed me so much, she sucked my lungs out. I deeply felt like I was getting raped, that fearful feeling." He laughed and said he doesn't feel blessed kissing several girls, rather it is actually the girls that are blessed. Asked who he wants to kiss next? Dayo said: "I haven't kissed a man yet. I would choose Aarif Lee. When he won the newcomer award for Echoes of the Rainbow, he was sitting behind me. There are very few male artists in HK with temperament." In another scene, it was about Jazz and Toby Leung's wedding; unfortunately, they suddenly got into a fight because of a $500 wedding gift and called off the wedding. Kate and Sharon were the bridesmaids who tried to stop the fight. The ladies expressed this awkward scene probably won't happen in reality because they don't plan to have a wedding banquet when they actually do get married. They just feel its too much trouble. It was rumored Dayo scolded Kate to tears while they were filming? Kate explained: "No such thing. That scene was about me crying. We enjoy working with each other. Dayo is more anxious in public, but in private he is actually very harmonious and friendly." About the wedding scene, Dayo suddenly brought up Jazz Lam and even started getting emotional. At one point, he teared up and began breathing hard. He had to stop the interview to calm down and then continued: "I almost cried when filming this scene. I always want to cry when I see Jazz. He is like a little brother to me, when I see him troubled and worried, I feel heartbroken too!" But when asked why that was the case, Dayo could not explain.

Cheng Chung Kei said that MANG's director has not arranged for any love scene co-star not because his wife Sammie Yu Sze Man prohibited it. Perhaps the director felt that he would be unconvincing and unable to relate with in romantic scenes. Instead he had more stunts. He himself would not resist any romantic scene. Speaking of yesterday's march, Cheng Chung Kei said that he did not have much to demand, but he discussed attending with Tin Kai Man mainly to support expressions of ideas. "During rehearsal I had to grab Cheng Chung Kei but I grabbed Shek Wing Lei instead. (Are you afraid of grabbing the wrong spot?) I am the most afraid of bumping into someone! Latest mainland drama "The Patriot Yue Fei"

Hong Kong actor, Gallen Lo, known for his usual roles as a gallant sincere man in his TVB projects, revealed that he loves portraying a different side of him through the perfidious court official, Qin Hui, his character in his latest mainland drama, "The Patriot Yue Fei". As reported on 21CN, while speaking to the media regarding his role, Gallen expressed, "It was a pressure and a challenge to play Qin Hui, who is not a typical bad guy. Beneath his shrewd exterior, I also have to show the respectable aspect of the man." Gallen expressed his amazement for the complexity of Qin Hui's character and strived to show the gradual transformation of the nobleman into a sinister official, although initial understanding of the character through his basic reading only revealed the court official as a traitor. "Qin Hui liked poetry and literature, and an accomplished calligrapher. However, sadly, his achievement in the arts was overshadowed by his crime of treachery and his betrayal to Yue Fei." Asked if he is afraid that he will be criticised for the role, Gallen expressed, "I was torn about it too! If the drama airs and no one hates Qin Hui, it means that I have failed. But viewers are different now. They know the difference between an evil character and the actor who plays it!" "Patriot Yue Fei" is slated to begin airing on 4 July, and also stars Huang Xiaoming as the titular character.
