In 2005, the video game industry brought in record profits of $7 billion, catapulting a business once thought by many to be merely “child’s play” past the revenue of both the movie and music industry.

Entering into the busiest shopping season of the year, the video game industry is once again looking at record numbers, this time banking on two of its heaviest hitters, Sony and Nintendo, as both companies’ prime new consoles for release into the American market in late November.

Ever since the launch of the original Playstation gaming system in 1995, Sony has dominated the industry. In fact, since its launch in 2000, over 20 million copies of the companies Playstation 2 gaming system have been sold, out performing the competition by a margin of two to one.
