The Hot Spot Security Fable

Hot spots, which provide travelers and nomads with a quick and easy way to access the Internet, have grown in popularity -- there are now more than 100,000 scattered across the globe. Consumers and businesspeople can walk into coffee shops, fast food restaurants, hotels, office buildings and even municipal parks, where they can turn on computers and check e-mail, surf the Web or access corporate data. However, as they take advantage of these services, many open themselves up to a raft of potential security breaches.
