The Gala Premiere of Run Papa Run <一個好爸爸> took place at the Golden Harvest Grand Ocean Cinema this evening, attended by leading stars Louis Koo (古天樂) and René Liu (劉若英), director Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉) and other celebrity guests, including Angelica Lee (李心潔), Bernice Liu (廖碧兒) and Karena Lam (林嘉欣).
This joint production between Jackie Chan (成龍)'s movie company JCE Movies and EEG Movies marks Sylvia's return to the director's chair, following her success with 20.30.40 in 2004.
The story combines the backdrop of the triad gangland with a witty and tender love story and the tale of a man's love for his family and daughter, spanning several decades of the protagonist's lifetime.
Speaking of his rather unusual role, Louis said that this is the first time that he has had to play a character from his youth all the way to middle age for one film and after living the lifetime of his character, he found it quite difficult to detach himself from the role. He revealed that the whole process took about a year.
Asked if he should be taking time out to relax, Louis sighed that his schedule for the coming year is totally full, so he has not even got a spare week in which to take a rest.
René revealed that she was a little apprehensive in the company of so many veterans of film at the event.
Scenes to look out for in the film include a tattooed Louis tenderly clutching a three month old baby and a kiss scene, in which the Louis and René's characters, in their fifties, share a romantic and passionate moment.
Run Papa Run goes on worldwide release from 10 April 2008.
