Hikaru Utada's latest release, "Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.2," was #1 on the album sales charts this week, with close to 231,000 copies sold. She now has 7 consecutive #1 albums starting with her debut, surpassing KinKi Kids to become the first artist to achieve that streak.
Meanwhile, the simultaneously released English-language collection "Utada The Best" sold 11,000 copies to rank #12, and her 2004 compilation "Utada Hikaru SINGLE COLLECTION VOL.1" jumped from #167 to #43.
At #2 on the album charts was KARA's "Girl's Talk," selling more than 107,000 copies. The last Asian (non-Japanese) girl group to break 100,000 in first week sales for an album was Twelve Girls Band in 2004.
Also in the top ten this week were new releases by Hilcrhyme (#5), "Macross Frontier" (#6), My Chemical Romance (#8), and Shunsuke Kiyokiba (#10).
On the singles chart, the top spot was taken by Tackey & Tsubasa's "Ai wa Takaramono," their first single since 2008. It sold 69,000 copies to become their 7th chart-topper, with their last one being "SAMURAI" in 2007.
YUI's new song was not far behind at #2, followed by SDN48, UVERworld, and Idoling!!! The only other new release in the top ten was at #9 from the group DEEP, previously known as COLOR.
