Miriam Yeung Quits TVB

Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) has decided not to extend her golden-handcuffs deal with TVB, reported Sing Tao Daily.

The contract ended this month.

The newspaper reported that Miriam is upset that she was passed over for the top two prizes at the Jade Solid Gold. The awards for Best Female Singer and Asia's Best Female Singer instead went to Joey Yung (容祖兒) and Twins respectively. Her music company, AMusic, was so up in arms about the result that it snubbed the aftershow party.

It was rumoured that Miriam was particularly angry because she had worked so hard for TVB, performing, presenting and acting in cameo roles. Many thought that she had one of the top JSG prizes in the bag.

Sing Tao Daily rumoured that TVB had tried to convince Miriam to stay by offering to do a dedicated special programme to promote her next album.

Miriam has already started appearing on rival television stations like Cable TV Hong Kong.
