It has been known for some time that the NTV drama series "Saru Lock" is getting a movie version. The film now has an official release date: February 27, 2010. An announcement on Thursday also revealed some of the new cast members, including actress Manami Higa (23).
Adapted from Naoki Serizawa's action-comedy manga of the same name, the drama stars actor Hayato Ichihara (22) as the girl-obsessed Saru, who happens to be a brilliant locksmith. The show just finished its broadcast run on October 15.
The drama's main cast is returning, including Sei Ashina (25), Gota Watabe (23), and Sousuke Takaoka (27). The new cast members will be led by Higa, playing a beautiful but deceitful woman named Mayumi. She requests Saru's help in opening a bank safe, resulting in a chase by the police.
Other cast additions include Manami Konishi (31) as a high-ranking police officer who graduated from Tokyo University, Ken Mitsuishi (48) as a gang leader, and Masahiko Nishimura (48) and Jun Kunimura (53) as members of the National Police Agency.
Filming started on September 30 and is scheduled to continue until mid-November.
