Hyun Bin just celebrated his birthday
Hyun Bin just celebrated his birthday (his 27th) with a large-scale fanmeeting, hosted at the Dome Art Hall at the Children’s Grand Park in Seoul, on September 27 (actual birthday September 25). With approximately 2,000 fans present, the event took the title “2008 Hyun Bin Fan Meeting & Birthday Party — The Present… HYUNBIN” (what a mouthful of redundancy) and welcomed a number of overseas fans from Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, China, and Singapore.
Conducted in typical fanmeeting style, Hyun Bin greeted his fans, took questions from those in attendance, chatted with former co-stars and other guests, and revealed his official fan club, “The Space.”
Birthday wishes were sent also via video from other stars, including clips from Jang Dong-gun, Song Hye-gyo, Shin Mina, and Jung Ryeo-won. Singer Kim Dong-wan (with whom he co-starred in the film Taekwon Boys back in 2004) was present as a guest, as well as unexpected guests Gong Hyung-jin and Jang Dong-gun, who made surprise appearances at the end.
Hyun Bin: “It’s been a year since meeting with fans, so this has really been an exciting and happy time. With these international fans who came from far away to attend, I hope all my fans have had a special time, and I will continue to show more of myself through more activities and work.”
Hyun Bin is currently at work filming his comeback drama with Song Hye-gyo, KBS’s The World They Live In with Full House PD Pyo Min-soo. His film I Am Happy has been selected to close the upcoming 13th Pusan International Film Festival, which opens this week.

Fahrenheit’s 2 concerts in Hong Kong have successfully
Fahrenheit’s 2 concerts in Hong Kong have successfully come to an end, and although the outside world thinks that their “sincerity is greater than their singing”, the 4 worked extremely hard, and their spirit is to be commended. However, during the second concert, Chun hurt his back and Jiro’s knee injury got worse, to the extent where the minute he got offstage, he had to be given assistance to help him walk.
Jiro’s knee has had a cartilage injury for half a month, but he gritted his teeth and pulled through the 2 concerts. While onstage, he looked as lively as ever, and noone could see anything wrong with him. However, the minute he got offstage, his whole body became limp and needed someone’s shoulder to support him to walk. However, today, he still has a spokesperson event to attend, and tomorrow he has to fly to Mongolia. His management company is considering to arrange a wheelchair for him.

Big Bang ended promotions for their 3rd mini-album “STAND UP” on “Music Core”
Big Bang ended promotions for their 3rd mini-album “STAND UP” on “Music Core” yesterday and will move to Japan next. They are one of a few after DBSK, SS501, CZJH to be entering the Japanese market. The sales of their mini-album has accumulated 150,000 copies after a month and their songs “Haru Haru” and “Heaven” have been well-received by fans, sitting pretty on top of music charts. This will serve as a good present before their move to Japan.
Big Bang expressed happily, “We are happy to know that our music has been well-received by so many fans. We are also really thankful to everyone for their support. This is especially so as our album was released at the same time with Seo Taiji. We are really honored to be able to compete with our senior.”
Big Bang “STAND UP TOUR” will be held in Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo from 28th October to 1st November and they will also take the opportunity to promote their first Japanese album “No.1″ which was released earlier.
Although the albums released by Big Bang has been well-received by their Korean fans and also sold immensely well on the market, YG Entertainment felt that the Korean market is too small with no room for growth. The Korean music industry is in a slump and album sales are continually shrinking. This is added to the fact that there are so many singers releasing albums each year which adds to the competition and saturation in the market. But with the Japanese market that is bigger, Big Bang hope that they can achieve some results there with their high quality music and high popularity back home.
DBSK also discarded the Korean market for Japan when they were at their peak. They also lamented at the small Korean market which restricted their progress. Japan is currently the 2nd biggest market in the world. If you want to make a name for yourself in Asia outside of Korea, Japan is the correct path. Music is without boundaries, it’s a singer honor to spread your music to people in other countries even though there might be a language barrier.
Big Bang will also release a new album in November and launch promotions for it until the end of the year. 2008 promises to close out with a Big Bang.

The movie “Painted Skin” premieres two nights
The movie “Painted Skin” premieres two nights ago at Hong Kong, the casts who attended includes Vicky Zhao, Sun Li, Qi Yu Wu, Donnie Yen and Director Gordon Chan while Leading Male Actor Aloys Chan and Leading Female Actress Zhou Xun were absent but Zhou Xun has made a short clip which was shown at the venue and there was also a “Face Changing” Chinese Traditional performance. The invited guests who attended includes Dayo Wong, Law Lan, Stephanie Wang, Kenneth Tsang Kong husband and wife, Dominic Lam husband and wife and Stephen Au husband and wife. The venue was bustling with noise and excitement.
Vicky Zhao arrived at Hong Kong from Guangzhou by car two days ago. She admitted that she has never seen sandstorm and this is the first time seeing typhoon. When mentioned about the incident while she was promoting in Shanghai, she denied and replied: “No, I am just not replying questions about my personal relationship as I think it is absurd and it will affect my work.” The rumor about Vicky Zhao and China table tennis player Wang Li Kin has spread for some time but a recent rumor stated that the parents of Wang Li Kin do not accept Vicky Zhao. Upon hearing that, Vicky Zhao replied: “I do not want to mention it, it is not what everyone thinks so. (Did you and Wang Li Kin recover as a couple previously?) I do not want to reply. (So how is your relationship life?) My life is going well. (Do you think that these rumors cause troubles?) It is alright, I know that everyone is curious, I do not care about these rumors and I will be angry about it, it will not affect my emotion.” She admitted that she does not want to talk about her personal relationship as she do not want to affect her work performance.

As for her friend, Faye Wong who has a miscarriage, when asked if she has comforted her, she replied: “I don’t think it is necessary, she is alright.” Besides that, Vicky Zhao will be promoting the movie “Painting” at Korea around the beginning of October. When asked if she hope to get an award for her movie, she smiled and replied: “I do not dare to think about it, I have mentioned it earlier several times, do not want to think about it. (But why the movie was submitted to the Oscar?) Hopefully there is a good result as this movie represents Hong Kong as a participant, this proves that the citizens of Hong Kong love this movie.” Vicky Zhao has returned to Beijing yesterday and will continue producing new records which estimated will be released around end of the year.
Besides that, this is Sun Li’s third movie and her first attempt in an action fighting movie, she is fortunate as Donnie Yen taught her a lot and she is thankful for not getting hurt. Sun Li thinks that Vicky Zhao and Zhou Xun’s appearance are great but the appearance of herself looks ugly. She replied: “This is for the needs of the character, I do not mind. (Any pressure facing senior Zhou Xun?) No, we are good friends.”
Sun Li having good luck every birthday
Today is Sun Li’s birthday, she expressed that she will be having good luck whenever it is her birthday except for the year when she was born. The birthday after her second year entering her entertainment career, she got the chance to participate in a drama series while for last year’s birthday, she got a prize.

Elanne attended a public event
Elanne Kong is reported being the third party and ruining her boss Lam Siu Ming and his wife's marriage. Although Elanne has denied the reports many times, she was seen crying while doing a magazine interview earlier. Yesterday she once again made it clear that she was not the third party and couldn't stop crying.
Afterwards Elanne attended a public event and was asked about the matters. She started to cry again and denied the reports. She stressed that she had never done anything to harm Mrs Lam. If she could clear her name she certainly doesn't mind confronting Mrs Lam face to face and also doesn't mind cancelling her contract to prove her innocence.
Will confront Mrs Lam face to face to clear her name
When Elanne heard the reporter asking about her meeting up with Mrs Lam earlier, her eyes appeared very red. She admitted that she had seen Mrs Lam in the company. During that time they never argued. But Mrs Lam appeared very upset. Elanne expressed that she explained to her that she was innocent and it was a misunderstanding. (Was it the third party misunderstanding?) "I have responded many times, I am not the third party, from the first day of the reports till now, I have never ever done anything bad to her. She said she didn't care as many people have told her things. I don't know why the reports started off saying there were financial problems and now turning out like this." (How did Mrs Lam react?) "I was just talking about my own personal feelings to her". (Will you confront her face to face?) "The matters have got to this stage, if this is the way to clear my name I will not be afraid. I have done nothing wrong, that day I cried and she scolded me but did not use the words (Wu lei Jing - Third Party)".
Elanne also claimed that someone scolded her in the street calling her "Wu lei Jing, stealing people's husbands". This had made her have thoughts about leaving the entertainment circle to prove her innocence. She said "I have to get married in the future, this incident has caused alot of problems for me and my family". Mrs Lam also claimed that Elanne knew all along what was going on, asked if Elanne knew what she was talking about? "I don't know, I really haven't done anything". (Mr Lam is going to sue the magazine company?) "I have heard about that but I don't know much about the Management matters. I do not have Mr Lam's phone number and have never met up with him alone".
Asked whether Elanne would cancel her contract earlier so she doesn't have to be involved in the incident? Elanne had tears pouring out and said "I really like this job". (Mrs Lam has said you are just dreaming to be a star) "I respect my work". (Will you cancel your contract earlier?) "If it gets to that stage and it can prove my innocence I won't mind. I currently have a 10 year contract with my company".

The production for MBC “Come To Play”
The production for MBC “Come To Play” hosted by Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Won Hee announced yesterday afternoon that Korean idol group DBSK would be recording an episode on 1st October. More importantly, this officially marks the end of the broadcasting feud between MBC TV station and SM Entertainment which had been continuing for nearly a year since it erupted last year.
The conflict between MBC and SM Entertainment erupted towards the latter half of 2007 when SM Entertainment decided to have Super Junior member Kang-in stay on SBS “Explorer of the Human Body” instead of MBC “Dong-An Club” where he was a regular host. The main problem here was that both programs aired at the same time-slot. MBC then decided to have a blanket ban on SM Entertainment artistes which resulted in SNSD, Super Junior, etc having minimal appearances on MBC variety for the past 10 months. It was also hard to find any SM Entertainment performers on “Music Core”. (Detailed breakdown)
This cold war has however ended with the announcement of DBSK guesting on “Come To Play”. Shin PD also announced that other SM Entertainment artistes will also be making appearances on their other shows subsequently.

Dubbed the first Chinese remake of a Hollywood blockbuster
Dubbed the first Chinese remake of a Hollywood blockbuster, Connected (保持通話) takes its story from David R. Ellis’ Cellular, and was shot by Hong Kong’s foremost action flick director, Benny Chan (陳木勝).
With a top-notch cast led by Nick Cheung (張家輝), Louis Koo (古天樂) and Liu Ye (劉燁), Chan proves that movies translated from West to East can be attractive to local audiences brought up on the fine tradition of Hong Kong action cinema.
Fast-paced and dynamic, the film wastes no time in introducing its female protagonist Grace (played by Taiwan’s Barbie Hsu, 徐熙媛). A widowed electronic engineer, and mother to a daughter, Grace finds herself in a car crash, then kidnapped by some gangsters involved in a murder that her younger brother had witnessed and recorded on camera, and locked up in a hut.
Cut to Bob (played by Louis Koo, 古天樂), a single dad who works a dead-end job as a debt collector and can barely keep his family together. On his way to see his son off at the airport, Bob receives a phone call from Grace, who drew on her engineering know-how managed to put a smashed phone back together but could only dial a random number.
Believing Grace and her family are in mortal danger, Bob takes the information to the police only to be told the call was as a phone prank. He then takes matters into his own hands.
Enter detective Fai (played by Cheung), a former rising star of the force who fell from grace and was demoted, who launches a one-man investigation.
The Hollywood transplant has been renovated in a quintessentially Hong Kong style. The elements are all there: well-executed fight choreography; adrenalin-stimulating car chase sequences; the timeworn plot of good guys versus corrupt cops; and of course, a dash of Hong Kong-esque humor. The film’s production values are unquestionably high and slick, exemplified in the scene where a crane shot swoops down on Koo who is trapped in a car that dangles on the edge of a cliff.
Though not without a few far-fetched plot devices, the action thriller coaxes viewers to suspend disbelief with a bevy of characters that have well-developed motivations and personalities. Liu makes a charming and slightly psychotic villain. Cheung, a favorite supporting actor in Hong Kong, shines as a family-man police officer who clings to virtues that no longer apply to the contemporary world. Koo turns in a convincing performance as an unlikely hero who struggles to be a good father and helps to soften the film’s hard edge with a father-and-son subplot drama.
As with most action movies in which the female lead serves as an eye-pleasing prop, Hsu is easily overlooked amid the strong male cast. Apparently, the star needed more practice and training to master her craft than her costars. Perhaps she should seriously consider shedding the pretty-faced pop idol look next time she plays a character who is kidnapped and tortured.

Barbie Hsu was criticized for being too beauty conscious in the kidnapping scene
Barbie ‘teaches’ the kidnappers how to grab hair
Barbie Hsu denies that she is unprofessional, in the kidnapping scene she looks very pretty because by ‘nature’ she is beautiful!
Previously, at the Beijing premiere, Barbie Hsu was criticized for being too beauty conscious in the kidnapping scene, she was not sloppy enough thus lacking in realism. Barbie defends herself, “I did not look beautiful on the set. The set was very dirty, and everyday my eyes, hair, nail and my whole body was filled with sand. I do not understand why everyone says I look very pretty.”
Barbie could not help but lament, “Why are they doing this?” The host answers, “That is because you are very beautiful in the first place”. After hearing this Barbie could not help but beam from ear to ear, “I think that must be the reason!”
However, Barbie has been very precious with her hair, in the scene when the kidnappers pulled her hair, she even “taught” them to grab more, so it does not drop easily.
“The kidnapper was gentle, I taught him to grab more hair to prevent them from dropping, he would apologize every time he pulled my hair. His girlfriend bought my book, so he knows that I love my hair!”
In the film Barbie plays a single-mother with a 6-year-old daughter, she says she bases the feelings of a mother from looking after her sisters children. After watching the whole movie, she says she cannot wait to bring her mother and sister to watch the movie. She says, “It is very exciting, very nice to watch, was so agitated that I wanted to laugh. I cannot rate my acting, but I have gave 100% performance. After watching I feel it is best I have seen recently, it is an exciting yet funny movie.”

Louis Koo complains that the Hong Kong government does not cooperate
Louis Koo complains that the Hong Kong government does not cooperate and was unwilling to allow the “Connected” crew film a flying car scene in a busy city district, forcing them to shift filming to the outskirts. The end result was just as good, he says proudly, “We want to let the Hong Kong government see, we could do a good job even though they refused to let us film.”
“Connected” opens in Malaysia on Thursday (25th September), the leads Louis Koo and Barbie Hsu, together with director Benny Chan met with the Malaysian media on Wednesday (24th September), as part of their 10-day whirlwind promotion tour of Asia. Unfortunately, due to a lack of time, the film company was unable to lease a suitable shopping plaza thus there was no premiere or fans meeting session.
Louis Koo had previously worked with Benny Chan in “Rob-B-Hood”, working together this time has increased their chemistry, even in the flying car scene in the movie, Louis had full confidence in the director, he admitted that suffered from some external injuries but it was more important to achieve the desired results. In his speech, he expressed dissatisfaction in the rejection by the Hong Kong government to grain them a permit to film a flying car scene in a busy city district, thus they could only shift filming to the outskirts, luckily the result was just as good, proving that they could do the same without the government’s help. Benny Chan nodded with a smiling, seemingly agreeing with Louis’ view.
There are rumors that Barbie Hsu had brought along 6 luggages of clothes and shoes for this Asian promotion tour. For this press conference she wore a black chiffon dress, and says she had no idea of Malaysia’s weather, and chose this dress after much deliberation. Unexpectedly, Louis Koo remarks, “In Hong Kong, only those going to wedding dinners would wear this!”
Benny Chan: Remakes are harder than the original
“Connected” is a remake of the Hollywood movie “Cellular”, and to exceed the original, director Benny Chan, invested 45million HK dollars on production costs, he says, “It is more strenuous to remake a Western film than an original movie. Because adaptation is very difficult and subconsciously I wanted it to be better than the original, so tried to do the best in every respect possible.”
Louis Koo and Barbie Hsu has only one scene together in the end of the film, lasting for a few minutes, the two of them replied on the telephone to communicate. The director first filmed Barbie’s scenes before filming Louis’ portion. Louis laughs, “Every time before I start, I will watch Barbie’s performance. Several times, the director played Barbie’s role to get me into my role, but I could not image how to act, because the director is a man!”

2008 EEG Singing Competition
The “2008 EEG Singing Competition” will be held at this Saturday night and the invited performing guests that day include Vincy Chan, , Sherman, William, Keith Wong and lots more attended a press conference yesterday with eight participants of the singing competition. Sherman caught public attention with her hot dance steps and exposing undergarments, imitating Anita Mui in singing “Break the Deep Ng Iceberg”.
As for being in the limelight, Sherman smiled and replied: “This jacket combines with my undergarment, and to avoid looking strange, I did not wear an extra one on, I just put on breast cover. (Are you not worried repeating Yumiko Cheng’s incident?) The dance steps are not that vigorous, and I have pasted on stickers to avoid any unexpected accidents. (Anita Mui’s costume looks sexy, are you willing to do so too?) Talent is needed but if the effect is good, it should not be a problem. I fear if the effect cannot be produced, then making up is important. For example, Anita Mui’s lips are thick, I will need to try singing and making my lips look thicker.” When mentioned about her friend Elanne Kwong who was involved in Daneil Lam’s divorce, Sherman pointed out that Elanne Kwong is a good person and she does not believe that she would fights for other’s husband. When mentioned about Elanne Kwong’s savings which only left two digits, she replied: “She did not tell me, we always share out problems in the past but not recently. Having a friend does not mean always sharing unhappy problems and commenting on other’s matters. Just accompanying chatting and joking with her is enough.”
William lost half in trading shares
William and Sherman will be performing separately that night but William got interested after seeing Sherman’s sexy looks. He wanted to request from the company to perform with Sherman together. William got the chance to dance with Sherman yesterday and he asked Sherman if she touched his important body part. Sherman replied that her back only touched his chest. Besides that, The Bank of East Asia faced some problem yesterday, William admitted that he has a saving account at that bank but since he lost half in trading shares, the account has a six-digit amount left. When asked if the money is for marriage, he replied that his budget for marriage is seven-digits.
Besides that, when Vincy Chan saw the participants, she remembered memories of herself participating in the competition. She remembered that she was still practicing her dance steps the night before the competition and thus her eyes look swollen that day. What was awful was that she forgot her dance steps and she cannot even hear when someone was calling her. It seemed that she has lost her memories. The company which belongs to Deep Ng’s dad has an account at The Bank of East Asia, when Deep Ng received news, he is worried, he just wanted to finish his job and return home to further understand the situation, even helping his father queuing up at the bank does not matter.

Barbie don't want to fall in love
'Between work and love, I find work more relaxing, whereas love can be much tougher,' she told The New Paper. 'Work is more exciting and gives me more freedom. I like the way my life is right now... I don't want to fall in love.'
Eight months after confirming that she split with her actor beau Vic Chou, it seems Barbie is happily basking in singlehood. What drives her on is her passion for acting instead, and instead of dates, she is on the hunt for good movie scripts. Her latest work is the highly anticipated action flick Connected, which boasts of being the first Hong Kong remake of a Hollywood film. The original is the 2004 title Cellular, which stars Kim Basinger and Chris Evans.
The Hong Kong version is helmed by acclaimed action director Benny Chan (Invisible Target, New Police Story) and stars Hong Kong's Louis Koo and Nick Cheung, and China's Liu Ye. It opens here on 1 Oct and Barbie, together with Louis and Benny, were in town yesterday to promote the film.
On why he picked Barbie over Hong Kong's own pool of actresses, director Benny said Hong Kong women seemed too 'strong' for the role. Barbie, however, appears fragile in comparison and 'invokes a natural instinct in people to protect her', he added.
In the movie, the dainty actress plays a mother who gets kidnapped but manages to establish contact with a man (Louis) through a spoilt phone and begs him to help save her daughter and younger brother. This is her most physically strenuous and emotionally draining role yet, as her character is a 'total victim' who gets beaten up and tortured by the baddies from beginning to end.
Lost weight
Filming in a small deserted hut - where her captors locked her up - was such a stressful experience that Barbie was constantly nervous and tense and lost her appetite. She lost 3kg as a result, she said.
The easy part for her was to play a doting mum, as she professes to be a child magnet. 'I love kids and I love to help my sisters with their children, so feeding babies and changing diapers is no problem for me,' she said with a laugh. 'I have very strong maternal instincts and kids usually don't shy away from me.'
If she wants to have her own children, she would need to find a man first. But - believe it or not - she claims to have no 'obvious' suitors knocking at her door. 'There are guys who say they like me, but probably more from a fan's mindset,' she said with a self-deprecating laugh.
Well, Taiwanese actor Peter Ho just blabbed to the media that he has been carrying a torch for Barbie since they met on the set of a drama three years ago. Barbie insisted they are just friends, and she does not rule out working together with him.
Another likely future co-star is her ex-beau Vic, with whom she still keeps in touch via phone messages. 'We're still friends and I like to work with him because we have established a certain mutual understanding. And I know he won't say no to the idea.'

Upcoming movie Sa-kwa
The 24th was press preview day for the cast of upcoming movie Sa-kwa [사과, which could mean apple or apology], and while this doesn’t necessarily look like my cup of tea, I do like the actors involved: Moon Sori (Legend), Lee Seon-kyun (White Tower), and Kim Tae-woo (Woman on the Beach).
In the film, directed by Kang Yi-kwan (A Smile), Moon Sori’s character is dumped by Lee Seon-kyun after seven years. She then marries Kim Tae-woo’s character, who’d long had feelings for her, but is confronted with doubt and worry when her first love returns.
The movie finally hits theaters after two years; since starting on the film in December 2006, Moon Sori has since married (to movie director Jang Joon-hwan). She joked, “Before I got married, I’d played mothers in a lot of roles, but now that I’m married, here comes my movie where I play a single woman.”
She also shared an anecdote about watching the film at the Pusan Film Festival with her then-fiancé, who’d turned to her afterward and said, “Marriage is starting to seem scary. It seems a lot more difficult and frightening than I’d thought.” (At least he wasn’t scared off completely.)
The movie releases October 16.

Hong Kong hunk Louis Koo
DON'T call me a hero. Hong Kong hunk Louis Koo kept emphasising this during the press conference for his new film Connected. He plays an ordinary chap who gets an anonymous call from a distressed woman and decides to help her.
His character, a debt collector who can barely make ends meet, ends up chasing after baddies, hijacking expensive cars and even attempting armed robbery to help save the woman's daughter and younger brother. It is certainly heroic behaviour by any standards, but Louis felt that all his character wants to do is help another.
In real life, the 37-year-old heart-throb would also rather be a 'nameless hero'. 'Maybe it's because I'm more low-profile, and I don't like the idea of doing something and then telling people about it or getting some reward in return. 'What I respect more are the unsung heroes who do good without expecting anything in return.'
One may assume it is hard for a household name like him to do anything without being recognised, but Louis said he has found ways to contribute to charity anonymously.
Don't call him for help
But if he gets an SOS call like his character did in the movie, he would hesitate to help. Even if the call comes from his Connected co-star Barbie Hsu. 'I'm not a hero, I can't take on so many people in a fight. So if anyone calls for help, I'd refer him to the police. 'What's more, who knows if it's really Barbie on the phone?' he quipped.
Not that he is so easily contactable though. Louis claims that he owns a mobile phone but rarely switches it on. Even if he does, he rarely answers if it rings.
The best way to get him is to call his home - his sanctuary when he is not busy filming. He said he would be watching all kinds of movies from all over the world, writing his blog or shopping online.
But when he is filming, Louis is known to be a daredevil who executes his own stunts. The most challenging scene for him in Connected is one whereby he has to jump out of a car that hangs precariously on the edge of a cliff. He could have opted for a stunt double, but Louis felt the latter would have done it 'too professionally'. So Louis bit the bullet and did it himself, albeit with his heart racing .
When asked if there was anything he would not do in the name of art, he said: 'Swimming nude.'
Why not, when he obviously has a good body to flaunt? Shaking his head, he added: 'No, no, I'm not too good at swimming and I haven't swam in a long time.'
Well, maybe that can be his next challenge on screen?
